« Les Eagles sont tristes d’annoncer le décès de leur membre fondateur, bassiste et chanteur, Randy Meisner, qui est survenu hier soir (le 26 juillet) à Los Angeles à l’âge de 77 ans, des suites d’une maladie pulmonaire obstructive chronique (MPOC).
En tant que bassiste original du groupe de country-rock pionnier Poco, Randy a été à l’avant-garde de la révolution musicale qui a commencé à Los Angeles à la fin des années 1960.
En 1971, Randy, aux côtés de Glenn Frey, Don Henley et Bernie Leadon, a formé les Eagles et a contribué aux albums du groupe, notamment « Eagles », « Desperado », « On The Border », « One of These Nights » et « Hotel California ». Il a été intronisé au Rock and Roll Hall of Fame en 1998 avec les Eagles.
« Randy était un membre essentiel des Eagles et a joué un rôle déterminant dans le succès initial du groupe. Sa gamme vocale était époustouflante, comme en témoigne sa ballade emblématique, ‘Take It to the Limit' », ont déclaré les Eagles.
Avant Poco, il était bassiste et chanteur dans le groupe Stone Canyon Band de Rick Nelson.
Randy est né le 8 mars 1946 à Scottsbluff, dans le Nebraska.
